University Of Glasgow


The University of Glasgow is one of the United Kingdom's oldest and most prestigious universities, with an international reputation for its research and teaching and an important role in the cultural and commercial life of the country.
With almost 16,000 undergraduate and 4,000 postgraduate students studying in ten faculties, it is one of the country's largest universities. Employing over 5,800 staff, it is a major employer in the city and, with an annual turnover of £278M , it makes a substantial contribution to the local economy.

The University has one of the largest research bases in the UK, with an income from research grants and contracts of some £75M in 2003-04 and over 3,400 researchers.

It has Europe's largest grouping of life scientists working in the Institute of Biomedical & Life Sciences and has one of the largest medical schools in Europe.

The University is the second oldest university in Scotland. The magnificent Main Building of the University, designed in the Gothic style by Sir George Gilbert Scott, is one of the city's best known landmarks. The University has been on the Gilmorehill site since 1871 when it moved from the city centre where it had been located since its foundation in 1451.
